Jesus & the Gospel

Hello, my name is Nathan Tuckey. Thank you so much for watching this video. We are passionate about helping people to understand the central message of the Bible, about who God is, and how we as human beings can belong to Him.

Genesis 1:1 says, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” Later, in Genesis 1:2, we are told that human beings were part of God’s creation. Our story begins in being created by God. Other theories of beginning have life accidentally coming from the primordial ooze or from battles between the gods. Only Scripture has life based and birth in the joy of God.

We were created by a personal God who exists as three persons and Father, son, and Holy Spirit. We were made for connection, purpose, relationship, and to receive and enjoy life from Him and with Him. But something is obviously wrong. We became separated and disconnected from God and the Garden of Eden. Adam and Eve were given the choice of dependence and trust in God or whether they would be their own providers. They chose the path of autonomy. Ever since then, every human being has been separated from God. In Genesis 3:9, the first question that God asks in the whole Bible is this: “… but the Lord God called to the man. Where are you?”

In Romans 3:23, The Apostle Paul says, “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” We fall short of God’s design and his original purpose. Throughout the first part of the Bible, the Old Testament, we have the account of God pursuing restoration and reconciliation. God is intent on being with His people. God is intent on removing the barrier of sin and evil.

At the beginning of the New Testament in the Bible, God comes Himself in the person of Jesus. Jesus, the second person of the Trinity, God Himself was born as a baby in Bethlehem’s manger. Jesus lived a sinless life, showed us the love of God. Eventually, Jesus was sentenced to execution by crucifixion. In Jesus’ death, he took on Himself sin’s ultimate penalty of separation from God, and he provided a way for us to be forgiven by God. Three days later, he was raised to life. Romans 6:23 says, “for the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ, our Lord.” Through faith in Jesus, we can enter a right relationship with God.

This is the core message of Scripture. We can belong to God again. Through faith in Jesus, our restoration comes not through our own good works, our religiosity, or our own performance. Our restoration comes as we place our faith and trust in Jesus, as we receive the forgiveness of God through Jesus taking on Himself our evil and darkness.

The whole rest of our lives is walking in relationship with God. Through the work of Jesus and the ongoing presence of God in our lives through the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit indwells us, reminding us of God’s truth and enabling us to live daily in God’s love.

Ultimately, we look forward to an eternal new creation. When we pass from this life, we are immediately in Christ’s presence if we belong to God through faith in Jesus, and Scripture says that someday Jesus will come again. He will bring about an eternal new creation with resurrected bodies and a new heaven and a new earth.

John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
I want to invite you to receive eternal life through faith in Jesus. You can pray and ask God to do this. Thank God for giving your life. Confess to God that you fall short of who He created you to be. Receive forgiveness through the death of Jesus. Receive right standing with God in eternal life through Jesus’ resurrection, and then live daily walking with God as His spirit indwells you. May this be your story.
